Vorticity in flow around a half-cylinder
In flow around an object counter-rotating vortices are shed from the top and bottom — for a cylinder this is the Bénard-von Kármán instability. Here, flow around a half cylinder is simulated with Gerris and plotted with GMT using the RdYlBu polarity palette (discretised with makecpt) for vorticity. The overlaid arrows are generated with vfplot.
